This is a fantastic build Dave_Manning. Really enjoying following the thread and also the photos. The finished model will make a big impact I am sure. Although the large size will throw up some challenges I am sure you will overcome them. Keep up the great work!

Did I see in some of the photos an adapted "paint roller" which is now a roller to curve paper parts? What a clever idea.

Actually no.
That roller is to flatten the cut edges of templates before gluing.

Making a start on the 2nd stage......

Unfortunately, my printer didn't print the same colour on most of the enlarged sheets so I'll need to paint it all to hide the differences in colour.
I was thinking about painting it all anyway ........

With the 1:144 scale N-1 3-L in the background, you can see how the 1:72 scale version is coming along.
1st stage is done and the various parts of the 2nd stage are almost ready for assembly.
Those are the flat sections for the eight engines sitting at the front which I'll roll into shape and fit tomorrow.
I'll also be painting the whole rocket in the Green colour of the 2nd stage fuel tank dome you can see at the front.
That will correct the printing problems of inconsistent colour

In real life the colour was a type of grey, actually. I think it is because of the types of colour films used in the early 1970s the colours of Russian rockets are often misinterpreted. There is a little thread on Collectspace on that matter. Here is another one from Ninfinger.
Inthe end it of course it ia ll your own decision because well, who could stop you? (-;

In the archival photos I've seen, some of which were sent to me from Russia there is a definate Green to at least 2 configurations.
The 4th attempted launch of the N-1 7-L was completely White.
From what I could make out there was also an all Grey one as well.

OH MY!!!!!!!
1st and 2nd stages are just about built.
I still haven't quite grasped just how damn big this thing is going to be 🥴🚀🚀
I've also just realised that I'll need to be careful when moving this while the ceiling fan is on ...... 🤞
I still haven't decided on what colour scheme this will be.
Either that Green upto the white payload stage or a Dark Grey.
There seems to be a bit of contention as to colour schemes for each of the 4 launch attempts.

1st pic: I was getting a bit concerned about exactly how in the Hell I would transport this BEHEMOTH when it's finished so I thought about how I'd be able to make larger sections of it detachable.
I've glued some wooden dowel to the inside base of the 2nd stage and fed it through a rigid disc, glued to the top of that part of the 2nd stage.

2nd pic: THEN..... I've glued another rigid disc of 600gsm card stock to the top of the top part of the 2nd stage. This will be hidden with the fuel tank dome.

3rd pic: I thought I'd refine the idea a bit with some guiding strips of 600gsm card stock.

4th pic: I am so proud of just how well this detachable mechanism works!!!!
Now I can happily progress with construction confident in the fact that I'll be able to detach this monster into 3 parts for transport.
The payload stage will be detachable as well as the normal part of the build.

Managed to finish building then fitting all of the paper detail parts to the 3rd stage and now I'm preparing all the parts for the payload stack.
I'm still making the reinforcement discs with 600gsm card stock for extra ............ reinforcement 😉
They're a pain to cut but I think it's worth the effort
