Thanks SCEtoAUX, looks like a great model. I will try it if I ever get done with the circus train.

I am a bit confused about this locomotive. It is obviously the one built by Richard Trevithick and generally acknowledged to have been the first real steam locomotive to run. However, I have never been aware of it being called Invicta, although I am happy to be corrected.

There is a steam locomotive called Invicta and for many years it stood outside on display at Canterbury, UK where it used to run on the Canterbury Whitstable railway. It is an 0-4-0 similar to Trevithicks but I think built by Stevensons. I am not sure where it is now, obviously being outside would not have done it much good. I can be certain it has not been scrapped so wondering where it is now?

Excellent model, well impressed.

The paper model that Kee is building appears to be based on the 1803 drawings for the Coalbrookdale loco designed by Trevithik. Trevithick buit a similar loco in 1804. See Richard Trevithick and there is a replica of it in Swansea - see drawing and photo part way down that page.
I suspect niether was ever called Invicta.

Invicta was built by Stephenson in 1829 Invicta locomotive
Not a great success and now a static display in Canterbury museum.
An obvious choice of name since "Invicta" is the motto of Kent County Council.

Nice to see this as a build thread.

I downloaded my copy of this great little kit. Altho it looks to printed in Polish (?), the instructions and photos of the kit, and in this thread, I believe this will go together just fine. I do not have any experiance with painting a paper model to look rusted, so I have to work on that, but the steampunk possibilties are endless, and the thing just looks kewel!

This steam engine which was designed by Richard Trevithick was and is known as The Penydarren and was built to haul coal to Pen y darren Iron works from the coal mines in Abercynon in South Wales. It was originally used as a steam hammer at the Iron works the later had the wheels and crank mechanism added to haul coal.
There is a full size replica of this engine in Merthyr Tydfil
