West Japan Railway Compnay

Hi folks,

I was surfing the inter-webs (AGAIN!) and came across this website, I noticed they had some track and since I am building some HO scale locomotives this track would look amazing but I am not sure of the scale... Does anyone know? It looks HO but I am not sure. If it is HO I will also look into building that blue girder bridge and the roundhouse.

Not sure, but judging by the rails, it sure looks like HO

I just found track on here.

I did a screenshot of the track and laid the Japanese track under it to see if they're the same width. Apparently they're not...

If you are looking to do the bridge and roundhouse, I think they are close enough, or you can adjust the scale when printing

I did a straigh reduction of the Japan Rail Way tracks to match the BestPaperModels.com tracks.
Japan Rail Way reduced to 76%:

The distance between the outside of the rails is the same but the rails on the Japan Rail Way track are wider.

Resized the BestPaperModels.com tracks to 131%:

Looks like some more manipulating of the graphics will be needed to make the rails match.

As a guess, I would say it is 00 scale.

I like the BestPaperModels track because its more detailed and has a right-hand switch but I also like the Japanese Rail Way Track because it has a curve.

Maybe since they're both free someone could modify the BestPaperModels.com track to a right-hand turn as well as into a right-hand and left-hand curve? (Or would we have to check with the authors first?)

Direct comparison between the two tracks is probably a bit futile, because the Bestpapermodels track is Central European and, therefore, has a gauge of 1435mm while the WJR track is Japanese and has a gauge of 1067mm.

Matthew, maybe you should write directly to Bestpapermodels, whether they could release curved tracks?

I'll look into that.

He's right: almost all Japanese railways use 1067mm 'Cape' gauge. Also widely used in Africa, Indonesia, New Zealand and on tramways.
