Chimneys on a section foreman's house

Working on some buildings for a client's GN Montana layout. I decided to do four buildings at once, which saves time. I won't be showing off all of the build here, because the walls of the building are going to be basswood -- but the roof and chimneys are mostly cardstock.

The shingles are modified Clever Models textures printed on acid-free craft paper. I cut them in strips, then slice the individual shingles with a plastic jig I built. They're glued onto some heavy black museum board. I rule the museum board with an old Ames Lettering Guide and a very hard pencil.

The method of building the chimneys is described here:

Good work. Need to dig the old box of graphic supplies out of the back of the closet since I think I have a Ames Lettering Guide stashed in it.

I hope it is a compliment to say that your paper chimneys look just like cast metal model train parts!
I gotta try Clever's products, gotta gotta.

Yeah, they do, but without the flash or the painting!

As it happens I've done some of exactly that on a chimney which arrived today when Mike of our itty-bitty regional hobby shop brought it to our club's monthly open house. Going to take some re-scribing of bricks here and there too. As chimney is on freight station right at front edge of our club's modular HO layout I decided metal had a higher probability of surviving the occasional attentions of visiting youngsters, and even some oldsters.

I seriously need to get around to acquiring some of that Clever models roofing, or even their CDs from which to print as needed - have several projects which could use it.
If I'd quit buying other stuff first, then ...
