A Powerhouse for a Model Railroad Client

A client asked me to build an Ertl plastic mill kit for him, but I talked him into letting me replicate at least one of the buildings in cardstock. I designed the structure in The Gimp, using Clever textures P/N T46 (Rusted Standing Seam Steel Siding) and P/N T71 (Illinois Stone.)

Hopefully my client will relent and allow me to build the main mill building from cardstock, because the plastic bricks don't look remotely like real bricks, and the walls don't fit flush with each other. It's almost as much work to scratch-build as it is to get the Ertl kit up to my standards...

This was a pretty quick build -- about three evenings. A simple building, but satisfying when completed.

Link to my blog post, which goes into much more detail.

I like what you've done here. I would think your client would be delighted with the textures you chose and the level of detail included. Good job!

And thanks for the 3-D view, too. That's class.

HO.

(The forum informs me: "The message you have entered is too short. Please lengthen your message to at least 10 characters." Okay.)

It's HO scale, 1:87.

I wouldn't be able to sell it as a kit, because of the Clever Models textures.

They don't have any problem with me selling the completed structures, though, and I'll probably put it up on Etsy... eventually.

Very nice. It is MUCH better than what the Ertl kit is SUPPOSED to look like. George

cgtextures.com don't have problem with selling theirs, far as I remember their terms of use.
