Doug - no, no delamination at all.

My guess is delamination may occur due to paper quality (as opposed to thickness) - unless the parts are tiny and the paper very very thick.

I also spray all my models with varnish prior to cutting out and assembly, and I am sure that the varnish really helps. Whether the print method also makes a difference I am uncertain, but it could - commercial models are generally litho, and nowadays also increasingly laser printed, and even with paper that is extremely thick, I have not had delamination.

The paper thickness of the Millimodel is similar to Micromodels - 160grm (about 40lb bond/ledger), which is not really that thick.

---------------------

Incidentally Doug, models I have printed are always laser printed as well, and again here no delamination.

Vinalssergio155, Don and Yeti - thank you!

Don and Yeti - thank you for also your comments also in the historical information. It makes bashing it out worth the effort!

Yeti - yes the scale is close to Z gauge. If I am happy with the eventual outcome I may invest in the Preiser Z unpainted railway figure pack (88500) and make a small diorama - which is how I like to display my models, even if the diorama is very simple with one or two figures. I do not think the difference in scale will be that noticeable, especially as people vary in height!

Welcome!

With my health the mess it is now it is not likely that I will be contributing any model build threads but I still want to contribute useful things to the people here, and it looks like references is the thing I can contribute.

Philip - I actually also am working on the restoration of an old original micromodel, with a view to making it. I also have had another one I hauled out of my stash (another original) that is good enoi\ugh to just copy and then make. Both are not trains!

Will post something when I get around to them - I actually find there is still quite an interest in these models.

southwestforests - I sent you a PM, which see...

Loco Coal Wagon - last stages!

On to the final stages…

Picture 1 – This shows the body with Axlebox Assembly now attached.

Picture 2 – The wagon underside touched up at this stage with watercolours, with the wheels waiting to go on.

Picture 3 – The underside complete.
In this picture...
  • I have now attached the Headstocks at either end on the underside.
  • The buffer heads are cut out and by my finger.
  • I have started sanding a toothpick to make the buffers themselves. Still a bit more sanding.
Picture 4 – Here the buffers and buffer heads are now attached. They are still drying in this picture, and after I took the photo I straightened them up as they set.

Picture 5 and 6 – To complete the model assembly, the stanchions need to be glued to each end – these are indicated by the red arrows in Picture 5. I pre-painted the edges before attaching them.

PART 2 below is a continuation of this section of the build.

Finished Loco Coal Truck

PART 2

The last step is to now touch up the coal wagon...
  • I filled a few gaps with PVA glue.
  • The odd areas were then touched up with black and grey watercolour.
  • The coal load also got a light dry brushing with the same grey paint used on the wagon.
  • I will respray the finished item with varnish, but this can wait until I have other items to spray as well - the varnish will even the colours out where I have touched up and it will look far better!
Pictures 1 to 3 show the finished coal wagon ready to haul coal around the L & Y!

Next will probably be the low sided wagon – a similar build.

That's a fine, business-like mineral wagon, Kevin!

I look forward to seeing the next item of rolling stock take shape.
