Splendid all round.

And Erik - a really wonderful build on your part.

I enjoyed the thread and the end result is stunning. Now if you are keeping the model, change those hoses quickly!

F7A finished!!

Hello PM's,

Happy to announce that the model, including the tracks, is fully finished now! I've been taking quite a few pictures of the end result, which I will post in a separate photo gallery.

I would like to thank you all for showing interest in this build, I really appreciated your comment. One day I will build the F7B unit as well as I'm very curious how the combination of both engines looks like. Just a short break now and then on to something that flies, and consists of 11 + 2 parts only . Not meaning to say it will be easy....

Regards,
Erik

Beautiful work Erik, that was a great control build. I am delighted to say I have the download version in hand and the printed copy is on the way.

Hello Hi-Torque,

Thank you and also thanks for sending the link to the operations manual, which provides good background of the loc's equipment, for both A and B versions, and how it was used. I find the F7 a fascinating and impressive piece of machinery. As I intend to build the B-version also one day, this info will be very useful.

I haven't seen the final model kit and worked with the firstly available sheets, which were revised by the designer a good number of times during the build, but I understood from him that additional information on how to optionally detail the loc has been provided, based on my recommendations and experiences. Not every detail has been mentioned in the building report on this site, which of course also depends on how far the builder wishes to go with adding extra details.

Good luck with your build, if you have any questions, just let me know and I'll be happy to respond!

It's a great model, carefully designed with a balanced degree of details, and the fact that it is available as a download opens up great opportunity to detail it further to your liking. Just print a few extra copies of each sheet and explore as you go.

Cheers,
Erik

Delighted to be able to tell you the Santa Fé F7 A and B locomotives are a great success. Encouraged by that, designer Cor and I have decided to go for a coach as well - we have some drawings like the one attached here. Good drawings of the bogie (which is NOT identical to those on the locomotives, alas) would be very welcome.
And especially: reservations are very welcome. Price will be similar to the B unit, ca. 10 EUR as download. Please mail me direct (easier for me than pm) at

Coming soon: Santa Fé / Alaska RR coach, type Budd

Cor and Diderick are currently working on the design of the Santa Fé / Alaska RR coach, type Budd, and once it's ready I will be building the prototype. Also, within reasonable time frame there will be a follow-up on the F7A build, as the next logical step is also to make the F7B unit.

Together with the coach, it'll become a real train and a spectacular set of models. Herewith a few pictures of the design process. As usual, Cor is paying a lot of attention to interior details and no doubt the result will be very attractive. Will keep you posted with more details!

Regards,
Erik
