I am impressed with your build of the wheels - very neat and symmetrical...

Yeah Kevin, those wheels were a bit of a challenge but all in all, this is a very fun model to assemble as it goes together rather quickly..

Boiler

The boiler has no internal support structure so there are a number of features that are best added to it at this stage, this would include flanges for the expansion tank and manifold as well as the two, upper mounts for diagonal bracing on either side and the, "saddle" for the smoke stack.

This little locomotive was completely destroyed in a warehouse fire in 1904, it was hastily restored for the 1905 exposition, the owner David Hewes fastened a brass plaque to the boiler and gave it to the state of Oregon at that time, the plaque remains there to this day, nearly 115 years later.

The boiler is where the yellow pin striping really becomes prevalent, even more so on the tender.

It's a pleasure to see this model take shape.

I appreciate the historical background information.

Steam dome

While the boiler is still off I added all of the other features such as the steam dome with it's vent pipe and roof mount.

The front of the boiler has two small handles, a small, rectangular plate and the lower, diagonal mounts, the back of the boiler has the fire door, a circular plate used to inspect the boiler and above are the flanges for the smoke stack and manifold.

Again I would iterate that if someone with more time, patience and skill were to actually take their time and color the edges, this would be a better model, but since I have none of the above, this will have to do, all of the critical components are there, I just don't have the time, patience or skill..

That's what I like about this forum, there is space here for those of every skill level and interest, I'm much better at drawing these than I am at putting them together..

and we all have been at the beginning, some of us are better at building than designing(like me), so we try to keep it all inclusive
