In place

This is what it looks like with the tender in place, note that the brackets are all in and the four rods that secure the tank to the frame, now I can move on to the roof and stack..

Frame bracket

Just behind the rear wheels are two large brackets that secure the tender to the frame.

Very nice - starting to look workmanlike!

Roof

Okay, got the roof done, it starts out by forming the arches, the two side beams are not square but actually have a profile that pairs with the ends of the arches, the stringers are then added as well as two brackets for the rear corners and the plates that mount the vertical post.

While these features won't be readily visible when the roof is on, it's nice to know that they are there.

The roof sheathing and the metal work that supports the smoke stack are then added followed by the vertical post that mount to the tender.

I'll do a little clean up and then set this aside until I can test fit the smoke stack as the two have to be added to the boiler and tender simultaneously.

Skid, it looks a lot better with the roof and stack in place, most of these details aren't readily visible unless you pick it up and look underneath but it''s nice to know that they are there...

Stack & roof

So, I formed the stack, in this case I used an old prescription bottle, perfect fit, then I added both the stack and the roof simultaneously.

This is to the extent that I would expect a novice modeler to achieve using the first 100 parts or so, from here on out it gets increasingly more difficult as I do the cylinders, water pumps and all of their related piping and hardware, a tremendous number of 2mm tubes, I won't add the connecting arms until all of those details are done.

Looking great . What software do you use for your design. I use solidoworks for work but would like something for home that I can use . I have a project in mind and want to get all things needed to do a good job . Thank you

Skid, I use autocad for the 3-D design and then I send it over to Coreldraw for the 2-D graphics..

Moving forward

Okay, so, from here on out the two sides, left and right are segregated, left side parts are on page seven, right hand parts are on the last page, page eight.

From here on out all of the parts are in labeled groups and as they are mirror images, the parts are not interchangeable and must be kept separated, left and right.

I'll start with the slide mechanism as it sits beneath the cylinder and ties the cylinders and water pumps together.
