私の小さな明治電車 (1/250)

That is Japanese and means my little Meiji-train.

A few weeks ago IORI Koubou - a Japanese model railway garage kit producer - released a 1/80 scale model of ハ16, an early 3rd class coach. Which, of course, I had to have!

A suitable engine was found in a dusty corner of my hard disk: The class B2 (later 1800形) by Hiroshi Chiba was some fivteen years ago available from West JR's paper model collection.

All models are scaled down to 1/250, and in the last picture I've added two more railway models for comparison.

Enjoy!
Michi

Excellent work on these tiny models.

I like the look of Japanese railway rolling stock, especially of the steam era.

Thank you, Don!

The development of Japanese railway is quite interesting, indeed. They started of totally British but quickly adopted (mostly) American and German influences, and a unique Japanese style was developed by the end of the Meiji-era. Which is quite an achievement!

Dan Free: "Early Japanese Railways 1853-1914: Engineering Triumphs That Transformed Meiji-era Japan" is a good read.

I was trying to pinpoint what was bothering me about the locomotive's motion, I think it is that the motion bracket is set to hold the slide bars horizontal when they should be angled down towards the wheel centre.
I think I would print out another layer and set it at the correct angle as an overlay.
Neatly put together!

Thank you, Gary!

Unfortunately, you are totally right, Robin. And the cylinders should point downwards, too...
I have to admit that I built the loco without checking my references first. I plead guilty in all points!

However, I think I rather build the loco a second time because it turned out much too bright to represent a black engine. (According to 細密イラストで綴る 日本蒸気機関車史 the B2 class' first livery was a beautiful crimson - yet another temptation!)

Nice to see your models again.
Where have you been?
Hopefully every thing is fine.
Looking forward to your next models!

Thank you for asking (and again I'm late answering, oh my...).
No, everything is fine (except for the pandemy, of course, but thank goodness the effects on me are only small). Last summer the combination of the heatwave and an above average amount of real life made me quite lazy, and when I came back to normal, the forum wasn't accessable from Germany for several months, that's all!
