The Oregon Pony (a build thread)
It’s been five years since I’ve designed or assembled a paper model or have done a build thread but I thought this little 0-4-0 locomotive, soon to be released by Marji’s Models was worthy of coming out of, “retirement” for.
The history of the Oregon Pony is extensive, rich and colorful but rather than delve into the history here, I’ll save that for the Model’s release and focus this thread exclusively on building the model. A brief synopsis of it’s history can be found here-> https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oregon_Pony My initial intent was to develop this model in 1:22.5, “G” or, “Garden scale” but soon found out that the vast configuration of cylinder, water pump and tender tubing was simply too small to be easily assembled. The solution was to enlarge it slightly to 1:20 bringing all of the tubing up to 2mm, being a rather large model, it measures 3 inches (76.2mm) wide, 8.5 inches (215.9mm) long and 7.5 inches (190.5mm) tall. I’ll start by posting these images of the prototype that was done in Autocad.

Oregon Portage Railroad
It was tested at full steam at an estimated 20 m.p.h. (32.187 k.p.h.) on timber, Iron strapped rails, it would serve it's duty at half that speed...

paint scheme
This is what it looked like when displayed in 1905 at the Lewis and Clark exposition..., this is the state in which the model is based on and the point to which it was restored to, basically jet black with yellow lettering and pin striping..

Factoid
It was the first locomotive not only built on the West Coast (San Francisco) it was also the first in the Oregon Territory and the first to be in full service west of the Mississippi River..... the frame was wooden, only 13 feet (3.9 m) long..
