Getting behind on my updates. This is for multiple reasons. I've been posting through my phone, have to crop and rotate most of my photos, really enjoying this build, and it takes less effort to just post progress pictures on Facebook with out any editorial.

Parts 25 through 46

This bunch consists of a whole bunch of linkage between the frame rails, and the front truck assembly.

The linkage is a healthy mix of rod stock, laser parts and kit parts. Some of the patterns provided for the rod stock are too short, so test fitting is necessary to determine correct length. Also, many of the holes in the laser parts are undersized and need opened up to the correct diameter.

The drawings for this section are adequate but could be slightly better to help with proper parts placement. Paint is required for the laser parts which would be too thick if the color printed parts were laminated on top.

The front truck had its own challenges. The leaf spring mountings on each side of the truck frame were fiddly to install.

The wheel guard/fender and the front wheel assembly interface is very tightly toleranced. I had to adjust the "fender" on one of them to get the corresponding wheel to fit.

I’m enjoying this build. All those bright colors! Locomotives are complicated underneath.

Parts 47 -54

Major puzzling here to get everything built up and installed.

The brass cylinder build was straight forward except for the end piece that attach to the piston rod guide rails. One must be careful to get them aligned properly.

The guide rails themselves are too long. Better that, than too short.

Speaking of too short: the drive wheel pins for mounting the linkage were sized according to the plans. They are too short. I had to add a bit on the end of each pin to get the proper length. So, word of advise: size according to need and not according to plan. (Not the first time I've had this issue with Modelik plans).

Also all the "silver" parts were printed as gray parts. They all got painted metallic colors via paint marker or spray paint.

Last night, I watched on television the 150th anniversary reenactment of the meeting of Jupiter and Union Pacific No. 119 that took place last year at Golden Spike National Historical Park with replicas of the two locomotives that reside at the Park: https://www.nps.gov/gosp/planyourvisit/things2do.htm

Speaking of replicas, a careful perusal of all the parts on this kit shows a nameplate that lists the company responsible for building the replica at the park. So this particular model is actually one of the replica and not the original locomotive. Go figure....
