"Hell on Wheels" - Central Pacific Jupiter

There are several threads on this locomotive but no detailed ones of the original 1/25 scale version published by Modelik.

The actual engine was one of the two locomotives at the Transcontinental railroad Golden spike ceremony.

The title of this thread comes from the television series using the railroad construction as the backdrop for the show.

This model is designed by one of my favorite designers, so I am anticipating good fits.

I have the laser cut set for it to, however there are quite a few pieces not covered in this set.

W1-W5 were assembled first from the laser parts. I spent the rest of the evening, laminating other parts and cutting out left side frame parts.

Good choice for your long-term project, and a good beginning to the build. That frame looks very sturdy.

A fascinating choice. This should be fun to watch.

I remember seeing this and downloading it early in my paper modeling hobby (before I learned about pirate sites). It just really struck me as something I wanted to do. Then I saw how involved it was. Ouch. Not for newbies.

I still want to see it built, though, so I will definitely be following along. I'm sure you will do a better job than I could ever hope to do

Frame sides are THICK. Hands tired of cutting since these were not on the laser parts sheet.

Excellent choice. Bought it years ago and decided it was way about my skill level then. So hope to learn enough from your build to give it a go.

Parts 12 through 24.

The suspension spring installation gave me a little trouble. I made the springs according to the template provided but I think the curve was too sharp, the springs were a little to tall to fit perfectly. I bent the ends of the springs down to improve fit a little but it was not entirely successful.

The drive wheels, on the other hand, fit perfectly when using the laser cut parts. The laser parts were the exact thickness needed, so I couldn't laminate them with the color provided. I painted them with Rustoleum 2X apple red and that was a decent match. I did add the outside edge strips on the spokes to maintain a cohesive outside overall color for the wheels.

Note that two of the spokes on each wheel had to be cut to conform to the center hub on either side of the driving rod mount. No big deal, just no drawings to indicate the need for those of us deficient in the Polish language.
