Model RR Card Modeling Article

The current issue of Model Railroader (Sep 2009) has a 2 page article on p. 62 "Build realistic cardstock structures" by Rich Bohlman. Don't know if he's a member here off-hand; he used to moderate the railroad part over at the other place.

Rather short article but hey - it puts the card model community-at-large out there to be seen!! Good job Rich!

I read that article, they say to use sandpaper to sand the edges, does anyone actually do that? I find it actually sands of the printed surface

I sand the edges of formers - and I usually use a nail file instead of actual sand paper.

I use those foam center emery boards to sand down glaringly obvious fold lines where practical like when there is not an elaborate pattern so hiding the sanded area with color is easier.

Edges of formers, like dansls1 mentioned, are sanded to get a better fit.

i have run across models printed on photo paper. where you use the provided glue tabs. they have to be sanded to get the finish off to get the back of the next piece to stick

Its not my kettle of fish for subject matter but I do really like the kits from here
