West Japan Railways C62 2 "Tsubame" Steamlocomotive

Another train, just to keep in shape.

Finished and on a simple crossover base:

The bird on the front guards is a swallow, or tsubame in japanese.

Some in progress shots, which i hope will help others build it too!

Model files are freely available here: [link]
Here is the crossover: [link]

This is an attractive model that captures the look of the locomotive very effectively in spite of the simplified undercarriage.

I can see lots of possibilities for adding some extra levels of detail even from that simple build. Nice find. I downloaded another similar locomotive and a rail shed to put them in.

(now all I need is some darn time....) ;-)

I should note though, i used 120g/m2 paper instead of 160. This doesn't hold its shape as good though.
As for the undercarriage, a few extra strips underneath should work, but this would make adding the kettle part tricky. Thicker paper would also help here.

Thank you for the info.
I’ve visited the site and wasted little time in downloading “Yoshitsune”, that was imported from the US after Meiji restoration, because American style loco with caw catcher and diamond stack is one of my favorite.
As Don already mentioned design of the loco is very nice.
Someday I want to build it modifying undercarriage a bit taking your advice.

On a search for more pictures of the real thing, i read that the US (and UK) imported locs were turned down, or unused because they were too wide for the rails that were already laid in Japan. That's why it has a different configuration then US/UK locs. And were a lot smaller in comparison.
