The Iceberg Flyer from Delta 7

The engine was released last Christmas. the Coal tender (complete with a little elf reading the Naughty List; what else would you read on top of a heap of coal? ) was realeased this year.

I see a pattern. In 4 or 5 years, we should have a very nice train set here.

Merry Christmas everyone!

looks like "King of the Rocketmen" to me.
from the 1940s

not a TV show...a "Serial"
shown in Theatres...only about a dozen episodes or so

was part of the inspiration for Dave Steven's "The Rocketeer" series

I used to wonder why the guy didn't go into a head dive with that metal bucket on his head. The producer of that made some pretty credible scenes by placing a fine steel wire between buildings and a special harness on the guy. When filmed it looked like the guy was flying, as he slide down the wire and the film of that era did not pick up the wire. Super corny, lots of fun.

I think that's actually Commando Cody, from Republic's Radar Men from the Moon, (1952), a serial that re-used most of the special effects and props from King of the Rocket Men. Note the clinging heroine on the "Mystery Ship" montage, and compare to the photos of "Rocketman #2" at:

The Rocket Men

As for the rocket model itself, those who were playing computer games back in the mid-1990s might recall the "MYSTery Ship":

And for those who don't:

Myst - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Commander Cody, Radar Men, Sky Marshall, Lost Planet Airmen...
all spinoffs and rehashes using the "Rocketmen" character.

Is that a picture of George Wallace rather than Tristram Coffin?
...no way to tell, based on the "clingy heroine" since she is a blond.
Aline Towne (the heroine with Commander Cody) had very dark hair.

(but that picture does resemble one of the "Radar Men" promo shots)

Mae Clarke (aka Glenda Thomas in the original Rocketmen"), however, is a blond.
...and was just as clingy! lol....so, I'm still sticking with "Rocketmen" as the original character reference.

and the spaceship is definately not Commander Cody's.

Was there a "spaceship" in Myst"?...I never got that far I guess! lol

wow...that does look like the right ship!
Good find!!

Airdave, I wouldn't depend on that colorized photo in the "Mystery Ship" montage -- the original publicity shot was most likely in glorious black-and-white. Instead of looking at her hair, check her dress, particularly the large sleeve cuffs. Unless Republic also reused the "clingy heroine" costume, I assume it's Aline Towne from Radar Men From the Moon with a Photoshop "dye job".

And yes, that is the MYST rocket. When I built my model, I slightly altered the base so it would more closely resemble the computer game. Unfortunately, I no longer have that model, and there's no photos on my hard drive.
