RGB color for metal surface

I own some models from Kranich and Variant of the former GDR. The Kranich ones were printed in 1/50 on metal foil and can be scanned with some preparation to avoid reflection of the foil. The Variant ones are film negatives. They can be scanned and may be re-arranged to any size. I work with CorelDraw to rescale and adjust the lines, which is no more a problem. But ...

... I haven't found yet the appropriate RGB color for bare metal surfaces. Does anybody have suggestions? I attach an image of one of the models, where I filled the respective parts with 40% gray. From my point of view it is to dark but I found no better solution than e.g. 30, 35 or 40% gray.

Re: RGB color for metal surface

For me, reproducing metal surface is one of the most difficult tasks.
Applying a gradient could surely help. Reflections are important for a metal surface.

Otherwise, what about take a pic of a metallic real surface and apply it?

Re: RGB color for metal surface

Thank you for the suggestions!

I found the code for silver myself but was not happy - it's to blue. I nevertheless printed one sheet (see image 1) nad it is still rather blue than anything else.

Image 2 shows a comparison to the metal print of one of the Modelik models. I believe I will scan this model and try to do as suggested by Papermakeit. Another possibility is the surface of the Tu-128 published by Hobby Model (image 3).

It will takesome time and more important things have to be completed before ...

Re: RGB color for metal surface

Gremir has a model that is the single best metallic paint job I have ever seen that you can print on regular paper....

Give John Griffin a shout - pretty sure he can be found on papermodelers.com

Re: RGB color for metal surface

In the meantime, I did continue the recolor experiments. I attach some images with the different results. I will print these sheets on both a laser and an inkjet printer to verify the most appropriate results.

Re: RGB color for metal surface

A while back the was a good tutorial that I think Gil Russell or one of the other old hands wrote. I hate to refer you to the "other" forum, but here's the link:

Re: RGB color for metal surface

It isn't that - I promote resources, too. I just don't like the direction that site went.
