USS Tarawa LHA 1

Hopefully this is the right place for this

Not that much more done trying to find suitable joining points without going through the middle of a hull cut out is a tad tricky. This is where I have got to. The sidewalk is in need of the strengthening layer underneath which will mark the position of the cantilever supports as well as taking the undulation out of it.

Almost launching

Well this side is done. It does not like being looked at with flash and I wish the card I wanted to use would have fitted through my printer's throat but it did not. The most difficult bit was getting the companionway cutout lined up without showing the edges. The fit was overall, pretty good it would have been better if I had sincerely believed it would. I took a risk by not adding too much glue to the frames and for the most part it came off ok.

The other side has the added complication of the side lift and what amount needs to be chewed out of the frames to make the hanger look right.

I choose to cut the frames after, rather than before this stage to get the strength for keeping the hull twist free. Behind the bland exterior are some pretty diabolical hacked out chunks.

Alright Barry! The well-deck looks fantastic. I need to get to work on a LCU to have for you!

She really is coming together very nicely!

Yeah, baby! She looks sweet. The coloring - weathering - really is nice.
