1/300 Petropavlovsk

Hi all, I recently started the Maly Modelarz Hiei. But pretty soon I got a bit intimidated so thought a simple model would help prepare me for the complexity of the Hiei. I have been interested in the 1/300 series from Kartonowa Flota. Mostly because they are very cheap. I haven't been able to find much information on them, and nothing on the Petropavlovsk.
There are six pages of parts, including frames on thin paper. There is also a diagram of where the parts go and Polish instructions.
The cardboard is thin but stiff. The printing is very sharp and a bit shiny. As the parts go together the shininess becomes less apparent.
The fit has been good so far. The shape of the hull seems to have been simplified a bit. This class of battleship had a very rounded tumblehome hull. The frames had this shape a bit, but once the sides were on it disappeared. Now the sides simply slope in. I should have rolled the side pieces to try and capture the shape better. The central part between the two six inch gun turrets is somewhat incorrect too. But overall the effect is pleasing. By the time the ship is finished(?) it will certainly look correct.
The colour is a brownish light gray. I can only compare the colour to other models of the Petropavlovsk. They are a darker greenish grey. Anyhow this colour will do. here are a couple of pictures of progress so far.

This is a really enjoyable model. I can see myself finishing this one. All parts are fitting well except the tops of two lifeboats were a bit short. I filled the gap and covered with some buff coloured tissue paper. I think it makes a fair representation of a canvas cover. The cardboard is nice to work with and rolls really well.
I have done two of thirteen ventilators. Maybe one day I will enjoy this aspect of ship building.
I made the top of the funnel as supplied. I should have adapted it to make it hollow.

Work carries on. The second funnel is oval in shape. All the references I can find show it is round. Oh well. I am making this kit as designed, unless any errors I find are simple to correct. It is meant to be an enjoyable, don't worry about the details too much build. Everything is still going together well. The small tubes on the funnels and the gun barrels are rolled from the same card as the rest of the model. This cardboard is great. it rolls to very small tubes and refuses to delaminate.
I have changed the shape of the front search light platform to be the same as the back one. Very simple to do.
The main gun barrels seem to be too long by the length of black tip. I will cut the black bit off. I managed to dirty the barrels with my fingers as I rolled them. I will cover them with thin paper coloured to match to tidy them up. This will also make them a little thicker, which I think will look better anyhow.
The small guns that go on the decks at various places are just two pieces of card glued together to provide some thickness. The look good to me at this scale.
