RMS Titanic - Fly/Gomix - 1:200 full hull

Hi all!

Here is the start of a new large model: the 1:200 Fly/Gomix version of RMS Titanic. A very detailed and very beautiful kit, so I'm going to do my best!
I am using the lasercut frames. I'm experiencing a little difficulty with warping, because this is a very long build (140 cm) in a hot humid climate. Drying parts under pressure in an airconditioned room overnight seems to do the trick though.

Hello Marco,
Looking forward to watching another one of your "jumbo" projects.
If I did the math correctly, it should be between 125 and 140cm (50 to 55 inches) in length?
Mike

Thanks, Doris! I'm impressed of what I've seen of the kit so far; the print is very sharp and accurate, the smaller parts are on thinner paper, and the level of detail is going to really test my cutting skills.

Hi Marco,

i wish you much fun with this huge build.
I have a question about the framework:
Is it intentional, that both underwater and waterline framework are connected at this stage? I don't know this model kit and can only speculate. I know from other model kits that you can build the whole underwater hull seperately from the waterline hull. You can connect these 2 groups later. I attached 2 pics of an example to show what i mean. It's the model "Altmark" by HMV (1:250). Both groups can be attached to a glass plate (to work against "warping") and are put together much later on the 2 shown cones sticking out from the underwater base plate. A rather good thing, i guess.
Just wondering, if your model allows the same technique...

Looking forward for more

Kind regards

Lars

Lars,
The technique of this model is indeed different from that of HMV and other publishers. There will be side stiffeners added soon that go across the waterline, and first the underwater plating will be fitted to that, and the plating above the waterline will fit over that. All the frames connect to one single base plate. If you want to build this one as a waterline model you have to decide at the very beginning, because then you will have to trim the side stiffeners.
