Hmvs Cerberus
I have been working on David Hathaway's HMVS CERBERUS for last couple of months. Still at it but I thought I would post a few pix. This is a free model from Dave's site http://www.papershipwright.co.uk/index.shtml. Any problems in the build (scale of the mast etc) are the fault of the builder not the design. Very nice! All of the Paper Shipwright models are jewels. The fact that he provides several for free is frosting on the cake! The base you have it on really sets it off!

Great job! I've been considering this one for years. I'm glad to see it appear here.

Thanks for the comments.
This is the second model I have built from Paper Shipwrights and I must agree that they are very nice. I recommend them to anyone looking for a good fitting, well documented ship model that results in a very presentable result. Just enough fiddly bits and the option to build them in either complex or simplified versions. Now all I have to do is fix that mast and finish up. ~ cheers Douglas |

Attention everybody, THIS IS A HIJACK. Everybody stay in your seats and nobody will get hurt.
I've been wanting to build the Cerberus for some time now. In fact, after digging through my "models to be built" pile I found I had printed out five complete copies of this ship, but never started any of them. Some were printed out before papershipwright was nice enough to resize the drawings to US paper standards, so they ended up being a little small (97% or 1/258 scale) and I tossed them. I kept the two best copies and am diving in to the construction. I want to stretch my abilities on this build, so no fingerprints or glue globs allowed. First thing I did was to double up the base and decks and internal formers. That means I glued another 110lb cardstock sheet to the underside of these parts, and put them under a piece of glass weighted with books on top and let them sit overnight to dry. Then the base was lightly glued to a piece of glass to keep the ship from warping during construction. Internal formers were added, making sure that they are trimmed so they don't extend past the base piece. The internal keel ended up being a little too short, but doesn't affect anything. Just makes the alignment lines to not match up. Once the internal formers had dried overnight, I added the two lower decks. Prior to gluing on the upper deck, I drilled holes where the turrets mount so I can make them movable. I reinforced the holes with thin superglue. The internal formers make aligning the decks pretty easy. Since this ship is almost symetrical, care must be taken to make sure the two decks are facing the right way forward. Then the sides were added to the two lower decks. Prior to gluing the sides on, I drilled out holes for the anchor chain to go through. The holes were then reinforce with a small drop of superglue and smoothed with an exacto knife. When gluing them on both upper and lower sides had to be trimmed slightly where they join. |

You are off to a really good start Kevin. I have to ask why you did not start your own build thread. I certainly don't mind you adding onto this one just curious.
I'm sure you will enjoy building this model. It is a great design with only minor fit problems. cheers ~ Douglas |

I thought that anybody looking to build the Cerberus would only have to look in one thread. This thread isn't that long, so I thought adding to it would not take anything away from your build. Also, I though I might prompt you for some more photos of your finished model ;7)

Well, I suppose it does make for a more convenient reference source, not to mention a couple of very nice builds. I like your thickening of the formers, it does make for a stronger frame work to build up everything else Knife. I have been thinking about this one for a while as well, nice to know where to look when I finally find that round tuit I have been looking for.

Well, good job to both of you.
I've had this kit for...geez...must be 5 or more years now. Maybe I should get of my lazy b and build it, too. Thanks for the pictures...look forward to seeing more. Jeff |
