USS Spruance

Not new just had the urge to finally fit her with 5 bladed props having managed to make passable ones. It's been sitting on the shelf for ages it was never finished because the masts have never looked right as flat girders so as a change from life rafts I've decided to try and improve them. I shall use rolled tubing as in Tarawa which seemed to work quite well. It dusted off quite well in the end quite a few bits to stick back down etc.

The five bladed screws look great. I look forward to seeing the tubular masts. Not that there is anything wrong with these they look good from here.

Huh, you got me looking one direction and then you show up over here. Blades are nice and I also think that the masts are pretty nice. You have a tolerant spouse.

I like your work as it looks!
But you can improve it, of course... show us, please.

Wotcher, bazzer!

As always, it's a real treat to see your designs and this has got to be one of my most favorite. I love the way the props came out and look forward to your completion of this wonderful build. I hope you see fit to making this one available one day; I would love to try building this one at 1/600 scale to fit my other ship builds.

Actually, I also don't see anything wrong with the masts as built, but look forward to seeing how you make them using rolled tubes.

She is one beautiful build, mate!

Cheers!
Jim

Masts

Thanks lads !!!

She may never get a new set of masts but I thought I would like to try it will give me some practice rolling tubes again mine are a bit off at the moment. Had a first try at it last night worked partially so today it's draw a new set of outlines and back to the days of stick and string and a lot of pins in a piece of cork flooring. I have remembered to use rubbish thin paper this time.

I think I am just avoiding deciding what to do after Tarawa so far I have 3 good plans a Daring class destroyer, Colossus class carrier or another Tribal class destroyer HMCS Haida all in the same sort of state of design all of which I like the idea of. I'm a wondering whether to do one last big one while I can, Carl knows what I mean on that or do something sensible for once. Maybe even go back and put things in order on the ones I have already done. Decisions, decisions

She looks nice, one of my favorite classes. I was sorry to hear that we lost Conolly ::sigh:: but we can't save 'em all. Your build is a great tribute to these wonderful ships.

Barry -- Now I see why you were interested in Australian Darings possibly serving in Korean waters. Of course, I vote for a Royal Navy Colossus of the Korean War era, preferably Glory, but any of the ships you mention -- or a Battle-class destroyer -- would be great. Anything you build would be great. Don
