133 foot Buoy Tender "White Holly" 1:250
Here she is, the 133 footer by request. Just got a start on her today, spent about an hour and half on her so far. That's the thing about Sketchup, big things move fast. The tricky part is getting all the shapes and details added, which is tricky indeed on this ship because of all her curves. I'm pleased with the hull (no do-overs on this one) sometimes they come out looking a bit messy with the method I use.
I'm also designing Blackberry's sister, Elderberry as she appears now after a half century of upgrades. I'll post that in another thread... Comments, questions and critiques welcome! |

Thank you, Don, Wilfried and Mchale!
I am growing very fond of these ships and this model...I can't wait to begin printing and building. Update...added hull detail, WT doors, ladders and firehoses, as well as detail on the foredeck. Looks a bit crude, but remember that she'll be just six and a quarter inches long... |

Excellent lines for such a utilitarian craft. It is really shaping up well.

I am really enjoying these service craft you are designing. They are of a manageable size, have excellent detail and are a little bit out of the ordinary. Very much like David "Paper Shipwright" Hathaway's models if you don't mind the comparison. Thanks for these little beauties and keep them coming!

Hello Avery,
Nice design work. This is an attractive addition to the variety of vessels on this forum. Mike |

Thank you all! I am glad you are enjoying the process.
Ron-I don't mind the comparison at all, in fact I find it very flattering! David is my idol when it comes to ship design and I get great inspiration from his designs. I intend to keep up with the small craft...I think I may finally have found my niche after running out of monitors and associated reference material. I also have a couple of patrol craft that are coming down the pipe, albeit slowly... Today's update. I added the pilot house and some detail on the buoy deck. Most of the work I did today though involved unfolding the hull. I like to get that out of the way early since it is very labor intensive in sketchup. |
