Digital Navy's V-108 WWI Torpedo Boat

Hi All,

I finished this one off tonight, which for me at the rate I build, is relatively quick. It has a balsa wood hull core added to the hull forms built in the standard way. It is the only way I have found that lets me build up a ships hull that I can cover with the bottom plates and sides where there isn't a great deal of filling and sanding then repainting required. I did add a pair of brass barrels for the main guns, paper railings and ladders, home brew stairs in a couple of places as well as added parts like the steam vent pipes on the back of the stacks, small boat mounts from another kit, anchor chains from Model Expo and clear windows in the bridge and upper deck house from clear plastic. The rigging is all stretched plastic sprue attached with CA.

Hi Jay,

This is a little beauty. I have started this one and it still awaits finishing. The problem I have with it is the fiddly bits, but my skills have been improving, so I know I will eventually get it finished. I like the idea of using balsa, must give it a go.
Thanks for sharing.

Bernie

Excellent, Jay. I can see this little ship pushing through the North Sea waves.

Very nice. I am thinking about doing the V-108 as my next build. I will look back here for advice when I start.

Good job on all the "fiddly" details.

Have Fun!

Thanks Everyone,

I liked working over this little ship model, I am glad that Digital Navy rescaled it up to 1/200 from the original 1/250 scale. Those railings are all Avant Card paper railings, I haven't got the touch to do them like the more experienced do. I colored them with a black Magic Marker and let them dry then glued them in place in a few spots to get them down on the model then added more glue once the first little spots had dried to seal them down properly. They do add quite a bit to this little ship.
