Turtle Submarine 1/12 Heinkel model
I'm a big fan of these early American historic pieces, so I was happy to see this kit become available. Printed it out.. sealed the colors with a clear hair spray. Was impressed by the clear diagrams, and the option of building the barrel in two different ways. Slow as I am, this will not be a fast build..

Started doing the top section.. As I'm not that thrilled with the way my printer printed out the bronze/copper??, I'll be repainting this with acrylics, and doing the version with glassed in ports.. Showing the parts that are used to make up one of the main barrel sections.. |

Great to see you doing this one, Peter. I'll be watching this one come together at whatever pace works for you.
Like you, and I suspect many others, I'm a big fan of the early subs. I haven't picked this one up yet and I suspect your build will sell me and others on it. Best of luck with it and looking forward! Chris |

Hi Peter,
That looks like an excellent project to get into, especially in the larger scale. I have just about given up on trying to get the printer to work out metallics, Model Master Metallic Lacquer colors and a couple of the Promaster Pens I have discovered do such a great job of replicating metal surfaces, I no longer ponder what sort of shades my printer is going to assign to those parts. Looking forward to seeing how this one comes out.

Thanks Fred... It would be super nice if I would actually finish something..
In this pix you can see where I built the pipes for the snorkel (I think that's what they are).. After fitting the pieces together, I rolled toilet tissue very thin and twisted it up into the tubes.. then coated with CA, which made the parts stronger, and also locked them together so I could sand them roughly into shape before painting. |
