@EvilTessmacher:
Getting files off an old hard drive with an OS on it should be no big problem, I reckon. What I did in a similar situation is remove the hard drive in question from the old machine, changed the jumper setting to "slave", and connected it to my "current old machine" ... that worked mighty fine for me; maybe you'd like to give it a try, too? Good luck! - Tex |

Tex, if I even understood 5% of what you just said, I might try it.
I view the inside of the black box on my desk to contain so much electronic spaghetti, with a few mystical magic boxes connected to some lighted thingies, with humming doohickies, a fan, and some sort of dangerous spell-casting pluggie thingies. It is more off-limits than the inside of a nuclear reactor to me... Then again, my knowledge of electricity is limited to: If I flip the switch, and the light doesn't come on, then there's a problem. Time to call the electrician! But, I know a guy that knows a guy that knows a guy who heard of a guy who once opened the back of a desktop. He hasn't been seen for years, but he's supposed to be out there somewhere. |

LOL! Believe me, I know pert' exactly what you mean; a few years ago, I thought the same way ... but sheer curiosity got the better of me, and now I know ... ;-)
Is that hard drive still inside some "old" machine, or at least as far as you can tell? |

Ask a child - I learned more about using a tablet from my six year old grand-daughters than I did from anyone around my own age..."look, Poppa, it's easy..."

@SJPONeill: And .. would you agree? ;-)
and @EvilTessamcher: it IS easy, after all. Computers are made by human beings,thus, WE human beings can handle them ... no nuclear science involved at this point! |

Hahahaha......
No, it's sitting in a cardboard box in a drawer in the spare bedroom. Wrapped in that plastic envelope hard drives come in. I don't have any plugs or anything to hook it to. |

@EvilTessmacher: :-) That makes things a whole lot easier, and don't worry about plugs and wires at this point, please.
Since I'd really like to help you (and hear you say, as a reward "Aaaaah - THAT's what it's all about!"), but wouldn't want to hijack this thread, maybe you'd want to send me a PM with your e-mail address and / or Skype tag? I'm looking forward to hearing from you. - Tex |

Well, thanks to Tex, I got the files off my old hard drive!
I've got a couple of physician appointments at the VA tomorrow, so I won't be able to post them until later tomorrow night or the next day, (not that I have any idea how to post them!) but I will be able to make them available, if I have to convert them to PDFs and email them individually. Thank you, Tex! I hope that I can help the community out by providing what I have. |
