Howdy!
I'm glad my little "whatch wanna gonna do" was helpful and you were able to access your old files ... and maybe gain some confidence along the way; maybe all that "electronic spaghetti" ain't that scary anymore ... I have no idea how to post stuff either, but I'm sure you can find some useful advice in the 'how to' forum on here. Once again: GOOD LUCK! - Tex (who's happy he could lend a looong helping hand all across the big pond) |

Okay, I have these files that show some decks, the linesplan (cross sectional frames) and one profile.
How do I make them available here? |

Hi, do you have the pdf files from the hulk of the UNITED STATES for me. I´ve seen your post and I want to build the model with the hulk.

This is probably all you need to do the underbody if you use one of the existing waterline paper models.

Very interesting plans which will help Jo to build the hull, maybe in a scale like 1:1250? Good luck for that!
Thanks from me too - I always believed the hull structure underneath the waterline and other technical details were a well protected secret until today. I wondered that there seemed to be no bulbous bow which was an american invention by Taylor and introduced into german shipbuilding in the late 1920ies (BREMEN, EUROPA). Obviously this was not obligatory necessary to reach a speed record like the Big U did. Just to recruit: There is a site wich deck plans which will also be interesting to understand the UNITED STATES design. I built the Wilhelmshavener UNITED STATES scaled 1:250 in my youth which is still by far the largest model I ever built and still existing in a really unfortunate condition... I am interested in building her sister ship, the SS America. Anyone know if there is a model of America available?

The ship does have a very modest bulge at the forefoot. Frances Gibbs believed that a bigger bulbous bow might cause pounding or lateral vibration. She does have an extremely sharp entry.

Smithsonian has copies of the plans for sale to the public. Sadly I believe the final outcome will be the ship breakers.
