SS United States

Dear all, I am looking to find out if there is a nice, high quality and large scale FULL HULL SS United States kit out there somewhere. I don't really delve into printed kits that often, so forgive me if the answer is obvious. If there isn't a large scale SSUS (say 1/250 or so) would there be an interest in a kit? The SS United States Conservancy just bought her from NCL and I thought a model would be a nice way to raise interest. I am also very close to Philly and *might* be able to get access to the ship. I think I heard of a waterline model somewhere, but (moving away from my usual format) I want to do a nice display model of her.

Interesting. What is the quality of the Wilhelmshaven kit? Is it waterline or full hull? Thanks!

The two kits I know of are the 1:250 Wilhelmshavener and the 1:400 JSC - both are waterline though.

You could build one of the models mentioned and do a custom hull. I have a pdf file from an old popular Mechanics Magazine with the plans for this ship. You could use it to build the hull. The file is too large for this forum but I will send it to you if you pm me.

I have converted to jpeg in a smaller file for view.

Has anyone ever produced an accurate drawing of the United States' hull ? I understand this was classified, and all drawings of that time were fancy ...see the old ITC plastic kit for instance. And when you could finally see it, I'm not sure anyone was interested in the exercise anymore...

Hubert.

Is this site legit? It makes no claim to have the rights to any of those models and looks like a one man band selling off copies that he has collected...
