Monitor PUIGCERDA 1875, Paper Shipwright 1/250 finished

Hi, gang!

I just finished up Paper Shipwright's offering of Puigcerda (Pooh-SHARE-the). Another nice little model from a master of unusual kit subjects (master meaning David Hathaway of PS, not me). Enjoy the pics!

That is a beauty!!! Wonderful clean work. Really like the way the railings came out, and that shot of it sitting in your hand is perfect for scale.

Thanks, all!

Tim, the railings are made from quilting thread, using the jig supplied with the kit. I use quilting thread rather than regular thread because it has far less fuzz. The rail joints are glued with medium CA, and the entire railings set is then sprayed with several coats of Krylon matte clear while on the jig to stiffen them before adding a top color coat. When treated in this fashion, the railings themselves are easy to form and maintain their final shape well. The only exception to this is very sharp bends, such as ninety degree corners. In such cases, I will cut the railing into panels and glue each one in separately. It is worth noting that the jig in this kit shows two-rail railngs, while photos of the ship, as well as the kit diagrams, show only a single rail.

Cheers!

That's a great build, Chris! You have much more than done justice to the design. Your build is clean, sharp, and hard to believe it is 1:250 scale. Even if you have managed to get a giant hand somewhere, the build is impressive.

I think Puigcerda is one of david Hathaway's most beautiful designs, although I admit it's hard to choose a favorite from among his fine fleet of ships.

Thanks for the tips on the thread railings. Yours look absolutely fine.

And Thank You for the photos of your Puigcerda. You should be very proud.
