Thanks for the replies so far, I am glad you people like the tugs. But this only my first try, we will first have to see if everything fits together as I had planned in my idea. Having an idea, making the design drawing is a rather small step, but to design a 3d model out of a drawing is a larger one..
Yes I do sleep, it´s most of the time, just before going to sleep the ideas pop into my head.. Alltough I must say, research, like collecting photographs and pictures for these models allready started while still building the Titanic.. in November 2010. The design, printing and testbuilding were indeed started the last couple of days after finishing the Titanic. Jerry

Love the tug boats. I'd like a copy, are they going to be released?

Titanic tugs
I second that, Jon,
those are very nice little tugs. I would also very much like to have a copy, when you are thinking of releasing them! I am thinking of starting the Gomix 1:200 Titanic on the 10th of April this year to be finished in 2012.... That would make a wonderful Southampton 1912 maiden voyage diorama. Best, Bengt |

Well I have been building some next steps yesterday and today. Again, just like the Titanic, the tugs stern caused me some grieve, the decks didn´t fit the hulll one way or another so had to cut of a part of the stern, otherwhise the hull wouldn´t match up at the bow.. very strange.. I am building three at the same time, they´re all the same size, but they didn´t have the same fitting problems one needed more cutting then another.
As for the stern I had forgot about adding glueing tabs. And when one finally stuck, another let go.. I have build the stern, once, twice, a third time a.. well.. let´s say I almost had one of them flying trough the room.. but finally I did get the stern of the three tugs to fit and stick. But handling the models a lot made the ink wear of.. So I had some patching up to do allready before the models were even finished..; I´ve also added a black inner rim, because I didn´t like the white inside of the tugs. The stern, which almost made one of them fly.. The small tugs compard to my 1:200 Titanic. Having fixed the hull I realised I might have made some parts of the deckhousing to low.. We´ll have to see.. I think some more changes need to be made.. Jerry

Today I have been building the first deckhousings and have them dryfitted, they do fit nicely when attached to the deck (which they are not in the picture);

Adding, modifying and dryfiting some more parts;
The tug depicting the ¨Vulcan¨ is easier to build, because the top doesn´t to have to perfectly match and fit the hull. The funnel has been added and rigged. Also a mast has been created; The top parts have not been glued to the model yet and are there for fitting and the photo only I´m thinking about adding smoke to the funnels just like at my 1:1200 Olympic class vessels Jerry

I've found teasing out the cotton from a Q-tip to be very effective. then just cut off the q-tip, and drop in into the funnel. |
