Absolutely...
ensure the models cannot move. Vibrations that cause the model to 'rub' against the restraint system will cause finish damage. Using a 'rub' guard material like felt or cotton balls at the contact points can prevent abrasion marks. Also, try and minimize the contact areas (so they are more easily padded) and keep your supports lined up with the strongpoints within the model.
All stuff I'm sure you're aware of already...

One more thing: If the models are going into storage, you may want to enclose the whole interior in a plastic (garden waste size) bag to keep the moisture content fairly constant. Might be easier, in fact, to place the entire box in a bag, but you'd have to be careful to keep from poking small holes in it, especially from 'abrasion' against other objects such as concrete surfaces!

Good idea with the plastic. I plan to store them for 1 - 2 months maximum.
I placed the pink supper soft foam to center the models in the cutout slots and under the hulls. The white styrofoam is about 3 inches thick so I think I should have no problems. I will be starting the trip this Monday and will take a picture of the set up. After I arrive I will open a couple boxes to verify all is well. The lids are screwed into place. |

The trip is nearly complete. The models have weathered the 700 mile trek to North Carolina with no damages. Attached are photos show the loading and unloading and of Junyo post trip.
These will remain in storage until we buy our new home, looking to be January before they are moved again. I used a U-Haul twin axel trailer and it seemed to supress the shocks of the road well. I single axel trailer would have bounced more. |

Watch out!
Craftsman at work. Those transport boxes are actually pretty... nice job!
I appreciate the situation since I, as a youngster during a family move, lost my entire collection of 1:48 armor (plastic Bandai models) when it suffered 'heat distortion' from setting on a car dashboard. Between sun-up and about 9am, was enough to do the deed.

Well it's been awhile but the move is finally done and we are mostly settled into our new home. I got some time to work on Oklahoma today. The after mast is nearly completed and now I will start the funnel.
I almost forgot how much I enjoy building these models. |

Looks like a fine job of shipping with no damage.
Great outdoor images at your new home. Looking forward to watching you pick up where you left off. Mike |

So very glad to see these fine ladies survived the trek with nary a scratch! Looking forward to seeing your further updates once you are able to resume work on them.
Cheers! Jim |
