Detailing is outstanding

I started the aft mast structure for Oklahoma. I did not concern myself too much with measuring the pieces ahead of time as the model is so well designed. The mast is perfectly aligned with the formast, total time spent was about 4.5 hrs from getting the model out to the pictures. Maybe another week before I can do some more but am looking foward to getting the flying aft bridge installed. Once done with this I will Bring Arizona up to the same level.

The white upper works are difficult to capture with the camera and outside pics are out of the question due to the weather.

Did you use interior formers for those mast legs, or are those just straight un-reinforced tubes? They look extremely well done.

I cheated on my Arizona and used polystyrene tube formers to get a good round mast leg. I just never could get the rolled ones without formers to look right.

Only the 2 longer mast legs have added structure, I wrapped them as follows:
- Industrial cotton swab sticks
- 2 wraps of thin copy paper
- model part

The main pole is in multiple sections and I used a screw driver as a guide.

It has been a while since my last post but for good reason. Looks like I will be moving 1/3 way across the US for a new job.

I have to build framed storage boxes for the models. I am thinking of framing plywood and using foam rubber cut out to the various hull forms to hold the ships during the move. The box tops will be hinged and strapped. I plan to place them inside my hard side camper or a U-Haul trailer to toe myself. No movers are allowed near the models.

Anyway, has anyone else done something like this and if so how did you handle the transport?

I have the following to move:
Titanic, Rodney, Sharnhorst, Yamato (plastic), Arizona, Oklahoma, Paris, Portland, Tone, Shefield, Junyo, DeRuyter, and many smaller cruisers and destroyers.

Thanks for help in advance if anyone has suggestions. I will build one crate this weekend and post the results.

I built 1st test box today and I think it will do the trick and should protect the models for the move. The box is not too heavy and I placed two handles on the top to carry it with.

I placed 2 models in this box and will try to continue except for the larger BB's and Junyo.

I used 2 layers of styrophone and used a jig saw to cut the hull forms. I placed shims (pink) to firm up the assembly. I also placed the thin pink foam under the hulls.

Wish me luck, won't know results until after I unpack, these may end up in storage unit for a couple months in North Carolina, hopefully not quite that long. I will place the boxes in either a U-Haul or our camper and tow it to NC from upstate NY myself, not giving movers any chance to handle these.

Have you tried the plastic containers for storing Christmas ornaments? They come in various lengths and heights, are stackable and waterproof. And not too expensive. You have some great looking kits. Good luck with the move.
