Very Good! Do you make your own railings? If so can you show me how. They look much better than the commercial flat ones!

Hello Ted, I am very honored to be able to give you a hand. Of course not all my own bag but I was able to refine this technique ... Then we proceed ...
You will need a template that I enclose, you'll print it in A6 or reduce to 50%. Glued it on the 1 mm thick cardboard and cut it out also at the center. Use a boxcutter to leave the cuts in the line of reference. For security, strengthens the frame with another thick cardboard slightly closer this time for not going to close the cut edges. Without this you are ready to start building your railings. Use of cotton thread for sewing, no matter the color, and have it go in the cuts. Start at the long end of the frame. Once the first color wire tella with acrylic paint, I recommend abounds. Once dry do the other side. This time you use a mixture of acrylic paint and white glue in a 1:1 ratio. Bee it dry and then cut out the rails apart. That is all. I hope I was clear enough. Greetings Marco |

Fantastic, I'm finding strips of cardboard now. Thankyou! The stanchions being separate from the long pieces is what makes this much better!

Marco, A very nice demonstration. Have you ever used polyester thread? I like a thread made by Coats which is 100% polyester and is labeled Dual Duty XP fine. Seems to handle like cotton to me but with less fuzz. This was recommended by a sales person at a fabric store who was a great source of information on different threads.
Best wishes, Greg |

Good thing I'm not married then. ;p
I'd love to try making rails for my Shimakaze, but it has very fine cross-hatched railings... Yours do look smashing though!

Legion Just use the rails Marco showed. At this scale just the fact that they are there is just right. Don't get to bogged down with historically correct rivets and rail rungs. I think at this scale keeping things neat, trimmed properly, edges painted and straight alignment, goes a long way. On Marco's technique, use all three horizontal rungs to simulate Japanese rails. Good luck, take your time and remember this is a hobby it is supposed to be Fun!
