DDG 68 USS The Sullivans, scale 1:200 by Modern Naval Warfare

Ladies and Gents,

let me announce my new project:

DDG 68 USS The Sullivans, scale 1:200

I think there's no need to introduce this ship (A. Burke class), and The Sullivans brothers. Every shipmodeler and shiplover should be familiar with this great, touching, but tragic story...

This is going to be another "standard paper build", described here:
KNM Thor Heyerdahl - Nansen class frigate, scale 1/200, by...

My DDG 68 will be completed with four or five modules and the hull.

I started from aft superstructure (intakes&exhaust block). It's a simple element -but as usual -requires patience and precision in gluing.

Stay tuned and stick 2gether!

Dear Strk:
DDG 68 is docked at the Naval and Servicemens Park in Buffalo NY Just 25 miles from my house. on June 30th I'm taking 6 Vets from the Nurcing Home that I work at for a tour of the Museum and we will be able to get their wheelchairs onto the deck. I shall watch this build with interest.
Thanks for doing this one,
Miles

Hi Strk,

Very interesting build. Is this model available for sale anywhere?

Good luck!

Miles, I think You are wrong. At the Naval and Servicemens Park in Buffalo is docked DD 537 The Sullivans, WW2 destroyer Fletcher class.

Hi Strk, I just bought your TH, and the Sullivans sounds like an excellent topic. Not sure that there are any other decent Burkes out there, so you are filling a void. Good luck!

Excellent!!

Another superb build underway, and I really like your choice of subject...as Royaloak said, surprisingly this subject is not readily available as a paper model presently, so I for one am very happy to see you chose this one!

Cheers!
Jim

This is first A.Burke class in scale, 1:200. And this ship really deserves it.

Aft superstructure continuation.

Here You can see framework details. First time I have implemented "groove joints". This makes the build much easier and very precise, but requires more work from designer:

Construction under full load:

This is how it looks:

Some details:

The module is almost completed:
