Subchaser PC-472, 1:250, Inpaperdesign

Hello gentlemen,

after the tug ACKLAM CROSS I start now a new construction report from the same designer; the object is a subchaser / patrolboat of the 461 class; a little bit history:

Laid down 1 July 1941 by the Defoe Shipbuilding Co., Bay City, Michigan
Launched 14 November 1941
Commissioned USS PC-472, 9 December 1941
During World War II, PC-472 was assigned to the European theater of operations in the Moroccan Sea Frontier and Mediterranean
Transferred to France under the Lend-Lease Plan 30 June 1944 at Casablanca, Morocco and named Le Ruse (W 41)
Struck from the Navy Register 21 July 1959 and sold for scrap.

The specifications:
Displacement 450 t.
Length 173' 8"
Beam 23'
Draft 10' 10"
Speed 20.2 kts.
Complement 65
Armament: One 3"/50 dual purpose gun mount, one 40mm gun mount; three 20mm guns, two rocket launchers, four depth charge projectors and two depth charge tracks
Propulsion two 1,440bhp General Motors 16-258S diesel engines (Serial No. 5704 and 5705), Farrel-Birmingham single reduction gear, two shafts.

Tonight I started with the framework and finish with the maindeck; I love those vessels far behind the mainstream often unknown but when you look behind the curtain you'll find out there was more than 300 of this vessels built ...

with lovely greetings
the Wilfried

Hello gentlemen,

nice that some of you stopping by; unfortunately the maindeck was reversed so I had to build up a new framework; no matter. While it was drying I've found a nice photo of PC 472 - PC stands for patrol craft with steel hull, SC for wooden hull ...

... instinctively I add a framework for the superstructure - and it was a pleasure for me to build up the rest of it ... as can be seen, this blue dominated colours need a new whitebalance adjust ...

With lovely greetings
the Wilfried

Always a joy to watch you work, Wilfried, and very instructional too. One of the many skills one must have as a designer is the ability to catch the subtle details that make a model stand out and capture the feel of the original. It always helps to have another experienced eye go over the model and catch the little things I missed, as there are just so many on even a moderately complex model such as this.

I'm sorry my mistake with the deck made you have to start over!

This is an excellent project, Wilfried! I am glad to see another collaboration between you and Avery. The sub chasers were fine miniature warships and it appears that Avery has captured this one with great precision and that you are making the most of his design.
