As the "Koninklijke Marine" being one of the most traditional on uniforms, you can pick up the colour scheme here: uniformen, strepen, pakken van de marine Officers wearing on Her Majesty's Ships shirts with short sleeves, personnel wearing a T-shirt. The blue is a very dark blue. Kind Regards, Gert P.S. Very nice build and outstanding building report Last edited by eskatee; 02-18-2012 at 07:29 PM. Reason: missed some keys |

Problem is, this ship served in the east Indies, so the regular Navy Blue color doesn't apply. They would have weared the khaki color, which is like the stock tropical outfit color...
As for progress on the ship, I finished the 4 MG's and the 4 searchlights and am working on the little boats. And hating it. Edge gluing halfround things don't go well with me... Also, how did they get the aft boats off the deck at all? Their cranes are on the sea side of the ship with the boats behind them, with no room for them to pass through! I'll post some pictures later.

And here are some pictures, as promised.
Unpainted MG's: And then painted and fitted in their tubs: The searchlights:

I have made progress on the ship after a lengthy break.
Boats and more boats: And some stern detail parts: And I recieved some very nice kits for my birthday: Kinda steered my brother in the direction of these kits. I asked for models with Dutch history, all three kits provide that. The steamer even has a link to my hometown, it was one of the stopping points.

I had to go back and look at your crane.
I think the holes you cut out look excellent. Great work. Mike |

I did take the easy way out with the depthcharges and boats though... Mainpirat did them differently (adding rudders and oars and cutting out the space between the seats). And the DC's aren't shown on the instruction images, so I hope i mounted them right.
Right now, I am working on the anchor chains. I got a long enough piece, but it is slightly too thick to be a 1/250 scale anchor chain. But it was all the jeweler had in store that was cheap.

Thanks for those tips, Scon10, but I found a way better chain in the local drug store that had small enough links:
Before a dab of paint: And after: Should i give it another coat or is it good enough?

Yes, a nice chain. At what store did you buy this? I need some for my Nieuw Amsterdam as well.
It looks a little too shiny to me, wouldn't an anchorchain be painted black? |
