Scaldis/JSC 'De Ruyter' light cruiser, 1/250

I bit the bullet and started on this vessel. So far, not much problems caused by the designer popped up. Save for those made by myself... I erred on part 1-3.

Looks good but those tabs are going to be a problem when you skin the hull. It would be advisable to cut them out and replace this with little folded pieces that can be recessed a little. You glue to the hull first, then glue the skin on. That way, the skin can be pulled in flush along the deck. Otherwise, you will end up with spaces. You have made a fantastic start.

Been working on the remaining deck and got it nice and straight. Then i went hacking at part 34, the wall between the rear deck and the main deck. Managed to get a Dremel with some small drill bits and sunk the portholes and backed the part with some plastic.

The whole hull frame could have benefitted with an aditional tribeam running most of the length though.

Zathros, most of the tabs are already behind the edge of the deck, or are flush with it. So i hope the gaps will be minimal.

Hello Legion,

the man behind the models - Bartek of JSC - his designing methods are unusual - he changes often his methods of hull construction - but the results in each and every case successful and satisfying... thanks for sharing with us.

With lovely greetings
the Wilfried

Errmm, I'll take that as a compliment... I'm not that neat though. Most of the mess is hidden below the printed stack in the lower left corner of the photo's. You can see more of my workplace here, though those are old photo's.

Your hull frame looks very nice and the deck pieces fit perfectly.
Looking forward to more.
