Hi doc, I'm using OptiVISOR 2X so it is vital to have it to make small scale models or handicraft or jewellery.

I'll start first with the smallest gun aboard. Got to stiffen the guns with CA but they are quite fragile and have to be stored away safely while larger gun turrets are being built. One thing about varnished paper, it becomes semi transparent. So you'll have to plan beforehand. If you don't want any part to show through, backing paper, normally white, will have to be stuck on before the varnish dries up.

Oh, that's really very nicely done!
You are doing a brilliant job on this model...thanks so much for sharing photos of your build with it, it is amazing! Cheers! Jim |

Thanks, Jim. It's a bit scary for me when I think of the tremendous amount of work involved in building this my very first ship model. Honestly, I'm still figuring out where and how some parts should go and I'll be referring to others on the forum who have built this ship when I get there.

Okay, now all the bigger gun turrets have been completed except some of the smallest ones.

Really great job with your guns. To make the barrels of guns that technique did you use? Sorry, but the barrels are too perfect and I would like to learn to make them

Hi Marco, no special technique in rolling the guns. Start by rolling around a pin for the shape of a barrel and keep rolling. They are not perfect as the pics are on the lighter side of things. However, I have found a more better way which is to roll the tin foil removed from the packing of medicinal tablets. The guns are in silver and the barrels after rolling are close to perfect. But beforehand, make sure that all the strips are of equal length. Try it and I'm sure that you'll like it.

Wow, really nicely done, PM! The barrells came out very tight and neat, you show quite a lot of skill in rolling small tubes.
Looking forward to more, as always! Cheers! Jim |

Thanks Jim. And here are more updates. I'm still working on the nitty gritties and all of a sudden have this idea of making more detailed railings. At first, human hair (contribution from my wife) was used but not to my satisfaction. So I went out hoping to look for some substitutes. Found it at a threads shop and got a roll of fine polyester thread which is even finer and stronger than human hair.
I used part of the method somewhere given in this forum but couldn't remember where from. Instead of using strip of issue paper to soak with CA to slide over the thread, I used the fat end of a toothpick to press on the thread with CA repeatedly. By now I have about 8 lines each measuring a foot of this fine railing in a whole pane somewhat like a stamp sheet and I think that it should be sufficient to fence all around the ship with them. Some paint job will be necessary and I have tried silver which looks nice. BTW, the wires on the cranes in the first three pic are genuine human hair, thanks to my better half. Papermate |
