1/250 workboat by PaperShipwright
I have long dreamed of a harbour diorama of my own and I've been collecting models for that. I was inspired for example by the works of Willfried and Lars he re at PM.com and many others at several different sites. I have always been a bit of a shipwright myself and have been building wooden plank-on-frame model ships.
So I started to collect models I would need doing the harbour scene. Warehouses, cranes, several vessels etc. Now I think I have what it takes and desided to start building my fleet. I was forced to have 9 months break from modeling and my fingers needed dadly some practise before more challenging projects so I decided to go easy and picked up a fairly simple model - at least when it comes to part count. ;-) Model itself is fairly simple and very straightforward to build. The only challenge is her size - at 1/250 she's only about 4 cm long. I tested some laser-cut paper railings and ladders aswell and I will never build any ship without them. Easy to use and the effect is phenomenal. The bollards and the tug piece in the stern we're mabe fron rolled papertube and they're a bit bulky. I have to buy some cigarrette paper for my next projects. I made some mistakes too, I think the crane should be assembled somewhat differently. I will not confess all mistakes though. Here she is - Delta workboat from Holland, great design by David Hathaway and he offers it as a free model at his site. I acquired several other models from him aswell so there's more to come. Hope you enjoy. Best regards, Tappi |

You did a superb job on this tiny gem.
By coincidence, I recently began my ship model building career with this very model. Last night I added the railings and ladder. Mine is not as well done as yours, but I will nonetheless post a thread soon (and take your model as ain inspiration to build another one that will be better). Don |

Hello Tappi,
nice work on this little gem; today we've a foggy weather - the water effect and the background are very realistic ... With lovely greetings the Wilfried |

4cm long?
That's nuts! Then again, there are a lot of N scale train cars not much bigger. And 1/285 wargame miniatures smaller. She does look the part and look good.

Thanks fellows! The water effect was made with plain kitchen plastic wrap placed on a gray sheet of cardboard. When I looked at the picture I noticed that I missed few parts - the two lift hook plates on each side. Now those are applied too. The only thing to consider is to redo the bollards and the towbit. If I do, I'll post one final picture after that.

Your diorama is off to a wonderful start.
David Hathaway's models are all a pleasure to look at. Looking forward to more. Mike |

I have this one waiting in my "pending" file for a project similar to the one you're proposing, but I'm not sure now that this one will fit in; I'm now thinking that I might try something from the post-war years, say about 1950's (my childhood years when my uncle was taking me to visit harbours etc.)
Best of luck, keep us posted on the diorama front Brian
