USS Midway Scratch Build.
Well after what seems like forever. The USS Midway has finally taken shape.
Of course, I used a little artistic license because I only had pictures and memory to go by. So, I know there are portions of the model that are incorrect. This kinda bugs me. But, since this was a test bed to re-hone my out of date modeling skills, I guess it'll have to do. Oh, and thanks to Fozzy the Bears upload of the scale calculator... I now realize that what I thought was 1:300 scale actually equates to 1:352 scale. Thats quite a difference. The problem was, I am using an "Engineers Scale" and mis-interpreted the measurements on the part of the rule marked "30". No big deal. I will continue to build using my trusty old engineers scale. But, know I know how to shrink down printed models on the printer to match my current scale. Thanks Fozzy! If it weren't for you, I would have build building in error for a long time! Beautiful work, not often you see a scratch like this out of paper. I know someone who did Midways sister FDR in 1/350. Straight deck though.

Thanks so much everyone!!!
For my next project, I'm thinking of starting work on the different incarnations of the Midway. As she was in '45 and as she was in the 50s-60s. I haven't really decided yet. Either that or a scratch build of the Iowa... |
