Papegojan 1627 lasercut 1:72 - Shipyard models

My first build after moving from Nigeria to Brunei: the newly published lasercut model by Shipyard of the 17th century pinnace Papegojan (SHIPYARD Fascinating Ship World). I had built the lasercut Santa Maria before, and had a lot of fun with it, and I was pleasantly surprised when Shipyard published this beautiful vessel as a lasercut set too. All paper parts are lasercut, rigging, masts, cannons, deadeyes etc. come with the kit, as do several tubes of paint - the model is unpainted, and comes with instructions how to achieve making it look like wood.

Shipyard's Direction

Hi Marco,

Good to see you settled in and back to modeling.

Shipyard is taking the bricks and mortar route to extending their business. Can't really build the model without out all the goodies...,

The kit comes with all the necessary bits and pieces, but as a result the kit is a bit pricy. It's almost like a hybrid between paper and wood modelling, quite unique. The kit can be extended with the Stockholm quay (also lasercut - SHIPYARD Fascinating Ship World) to make a diorama - I'm possibly going to do this.

The frames and painting the decks. I found with the Santa Maria that giving the parts a finish with wood varnish after building makes the colours come out a lot nicer.

Hello Marco,
Looking forward to your sailing ship.
Already, the hull is beautiful.

I love all your builds, MArco, and will be watching this one also.
The quay would make for a nice diorama, but let's not get ahead of ourselves .

Great kit and so is the Stockholm quay too. Good to see you tackle this one before I start mine. Go for it, I'll follow.

None of the parts are printed? You have to paint everything?

You obviously like taking on a variety of challenges, Marco!

It looks like you are off to a great start, as usual. The initial framing of the hull looks very clean and precise. Ships of that era certainly were bluff bowed, weren't they?

I look forward to seeing future developments.

Don
