Thanks friends for your comments,

turrets are almost finished. I made shields and glued them. Completed turred I glued on the floor of the gallery. The floor was improved - there´s too wide in the plan. I glued the side of the gallery also - it will be without windows - they are in some plans, but no on any picture of any ship from the first half of 17th century. I´ll add some more carvings there.
The roof I´ll make after gluing on the hull

I´m still inspirated with Vasa ( she was built by dutchman like were french ships built before La Couronne, and master shipbuilder was learning and gather experiences and practised in Netherland )

There will be a lot of improvisation and changes on the ship....uff....

Two last pictures shows french ships from the first half of the 17th century - my corrections will be in this way.

It always amazes me how a person can take a old drawing/etching, painting and old plans and create a masterpiece in three dimensions! Thank you for taking us on this really neat adventure What I find really cool is how they almost mirrored architectural styles of the day when constructing the ships. With later ships you can sense the age of science creeping in more and more with sleeker hulls and more utilitarian form. This is really fun!

Hello Jan,
It is great to see you progress here, and the information about how you are researching the plans is fun to read.

Your work is truly inspirational. Outstanding thread, and a very well documented and instructional build.

What a great build thread, lots of great photos and discussion of your various steps in making this beautiful ship...from scratch!! That part never ceases to amaze me! Superb!!

Just one question, you refer to "foil" in talking about the planking..what is this foil of which you speak? It sure looks like wood veneer, but I would love to learn about any new materials I haven't come across before.

Wonderful work, looking forward to the next update!

Cheers!
Jim

How long has this taken? The posts are all the same day, but I dont believe this is all in one day! Are you going to rig it or is it going to be one of those hull only models (which I hate!!) ?

Thank you all my friends for your comments!

Turrets are on its places already I slightly improved positions ( now I´m not working by plans, cause I´ve quite a lot of differences ) Also stairs are made and glued too.

See pictures bellow.

jimkrauzlis: I´m using the same type of foils as Doris, after patining it looks really as wooden planking ( I´m using anilin water colours )
BTW, the Ark Royal I made two years ago is everyday almost half of the day on direct sunlight - and there are absolutely any colour changes!

BrianTJohnston: the hull weren´t built in one day, of course I´m not a wizard. I started the build 24. 4. 2011, between may - july I had cca 1m5 month long pauce, clear, uncoloured hull I had prepared 18th of july. Then I had pause since 19th of september till 1st of nowember too.

And about the second part of auestion: I´m still building COMPLETE SHIP!

try look at my threads Ark Royal and Mary Rose here on the forum:

Ark royal 1587, 1:96

Mary Rose 1511 1:96

Jan,
Absolutely brilliant!
Jim, that 'foil' is a self adhesive textured vinyl. Remember the days of 'MacTac' in the 70's? My mom used to cover old flour canisters with the stuff or even shelves in the kitchen cupboards. The stuff is available at most good hardware stores I'd think.
