Hello

I started working on Kursk's silos and rockets.

In this part I discovered some design errors. Diameter of silos is smaller than the silos' chambers, so they don't fit... I will have to cut those holes smaller than it's instructed as you can see on the 2nd image:

Every silos is made up of two cylinders; internal and external.
The problem is, that the bottom of the internal cylinder is too small compared to the diameter of the internal cylinder as on 4th image.

Right now doing the top parts of the silos. I will show you tomorrow how I've made them

Cheers

Adam

Hello!

Fishcarver, European (especially East European) modelers have such a big experience with paper models, because for a long time we didn't have many plastic models around, so most of us could only make paper ones.

I started making valves of the silos. I was never able to do those parts perfectly which really upset me, so this time I used different, easier method to make hemisphere. Many of you experienced modelers probably know it (or maybe you know a better way of doing it), but I just want to share it with less experienced people.
The valve is 8mm high, so I cut 3 circles of the silos' size (or just a bit bigger) from 2mm card, and 2 circles from 1mm card. I cut a hole in one of 1mm circles (it will make the bottom of the valve). Then I glue all of them together. I grind them, next I use emery paper no 600. Then I got the shape I want I drip the surface with super glue (the cheaper the glue the better, because it will be thin, so it will be absorbed quicker, do not use gels). When it's dried up, i polish it with emery paper no 1000. Next step is to polish the internal side of the valve with rounded tip of the grinder. Last thing is drip the internal side with super glue and, like previously, I polish it with emery paper. It will make a really nice, smooth valve.

That's all for today. Ready silos will be painted (it will take some time, because there are 24 of them + 24 rockets).

Best regards,
Adam

Thumbs up Missile Silo Upper Hatches (Pic 4)

Hiob: I really liked the way that you made these! Now, that, my friend, is MODEL BUILDING!!

As earlier said, I watch your build with interest!!
Jim

PS: How did the publishers screw up on the diameters of the silo walls? I figured that for circles C= (Pi) D etc. Forgot to account for the thickness of the card stock??

Jim, sometimes mistakes comes not from the designing group, but from the printing-office. But the impoirtant thing is to tell others about those mistakes, so they wont get a nasty surprise while building their model

Work on the silos goes on very slowly... I'm kinda getting tired with those. To keep myself interested, I finished a bit hull's covering.

Best regards,
Adam
