I have been a silent follower of this build since its start. It is another of your amazing builds.

Carl's design work is superb, and your skills turn a well-thought-out design into a masterpiece. Well done Michael !

Hubert.

Congratulations on the POTW Mike.

I've been fairly silent these past few months but always enjoy your buildthreads.

Hi Michael,

Maybe a little late, but I am still get goosebumps when I see your model of IOWA BB-4. It looks real fantastic !!
I like to build it someday too, but first I like to do some research on her, pictures etc.
I tried to get on the website of Navsource.org, but I noticed that this website is not longer "in the air. Do you, or anybody else, knows what happened to their website, or did they started a new one ??
Hope someone can shine a light on it !!

Regards

John.

Hello John,
To my surprise, I was unable to access Navsource.
Not good news. I don't know of another website that comes close to this one for its large quantity of photos of American warships. However, many of the images I used from that site were linked to the Library of Congress server. Try this link below. It may get you some images of U.S.S. Iowa. And of course, there are many images in this build report. Feel free to copy any of them as needed. I would enjoy hearing how it goes.
Regards,
Mike

http://www.loc.gov/pictures/search/?...%20iowa&co=det

Note: If this takes you to a search bar, type in u.s.s. iowa, and it should get you some images.

A hint: try the web.archive.org.
It seems that most of the information about Iowa are still present.

Best, Nando

Many thanks for the Library of Congress site, Mike.

Navsource is up with a date of June 14, 2014 and a new look (Photo Archive Main Index). Perhaps it was down for revision. There is a strong copyright statement that I had not noticed before, so it may be that Paul Yarnell, who runs the site, had to make some changes due to copyright issues. It seems to preclude reposting images from Navsource here or in other forums (Copyright and Legal Notices).

Paul Yarnell provides his contact info, along with that of the others who help run the site, so one could contact them for specifics on legitimate usage: E-Mail Instructions

Note that, in addition to the Library of Congress site that Mike posted, the U.S. Naval History and Heritage Command (Library of Selected Images) and the U.S. Natonal Archives and Records Administration (National Archives and Records Administration) are sources of images that are generally free from copyright restrictions.

Don
