I must admit I haven't been following this thread, despite the fact I have the model on file! You must have a very understanding other half to let you get that much work plus all the research work in four days.

I'm sure I've seen a model of the tug somewhere. Any idea where? I fancy making a diorama of the whole thing.

I'll post some pictures in the next day or two of what i've been doing for the past couple of days (I've had a filthy cold and wanted something to do which didn't need too much brain power).

Brian

Tapcho great build and good historical pics. very neat way off transporting the needel. there is a very good model in the maritime muesum in paris showing how thay got there neidel on to a barge.
Zathros i am prety shore that the neidel was sold given to us and not looted
it is intresting that cleopatra allmost sank .one off i think egins ships of antiqutys from greece sank and an other ship whith an egipson sarcofigus all so sank in or a round the straits of gibbrolta.
oh lots of dislexic spelling in there for you to puzzel over

I know that the one in Central Park was a gift from some Sultan or some such.

Fellow modelers, thank you very many!
@ Radek - glögi with you and sailships at Pohjoisranta would be nice. Just drop me a PM and we'll set up a meeting. I visit downtown almost daily.
@ Brian - the tug that handled the last leg of the voyage, steamer Anglia, is published by the same company that offers this barge (take a look at my first post, there's a link to Walden models page).
@ Vermin and romanmodels - these both stones that we've discussed here were both given as gifts so no worries there. But at the same time we must remember and confess that us westerners did loot a lot back then and filled our museums with their heritage.
@ zathros - thanks for the compliment. Research is fun to do when modeling so why not share when you find something interesting like this.

Thanks again,

Tappi

Cleopatra

Here is another photo of the barge with the obelisk installed, afloat but still awaiting the attatchment of the upperworks.

Happy New Year to all

I just caught up with this thread. Your model looks great and I really enjoyed all the historical commentary and images.

Fine work!

@ Brian, that's a great photo. Thanks.
@ Don, glad you found this and liked it. I made her while you we're preparing for your lecture before Christmas. ;-)

Thanks all,

BR Tappi
