Out of material

Ahoy
I ran out of building material on my last update i had to go to the VA it took me away from the store so Monday a new day and week I will post more updates on the Lurline. I will run to the store and get some supplies to keep me busy. I have a treat I built this 17 years ago i found it in the springhouse at the back of my house where i keep my RC stuff. The pictures below are my model of the Matsonia the near sister to the Lurline this was her last refit before she was turned into razor blades and new cars. Tomorrow update pictures.

Lurline pics

As I said, my dad shipped out on Lurline, April 22, 1942 from SanFrancisco to Australia.

The first two pics I found in my dad's scrapbook and scanned them. Don't know where he got them from. The others are pics sent to me by other members of the Grand Rapids Red Arrow (32nd Division) club. There are only 5 of those guys left here.
The third pic has Defiance on the hull, but I have no knowledge of her.

Post war pic. Showing the wear of her service.

Pre war.

Defiance??

Taking on stores, location unknown

Shipping Out

Getting pretty beat up.

Ahoy
God bless your heart for these pictures Dear Sir, Pictures like these are not been seen on the internet mainly because they are a private collection. The pictures tell a magnificient piece of history from a bygone era. A lot of food for thought on these pictures I can add some details on my ship compared to the photos. I certainly appreciate these pix everyone and myself will marvel over them. The Lurline was a grand lady for her day she represented life when it was simple and people enjoyed more then getting there. with the event of air travel has put a close to the bygone age of sail and people nowdays dont want to take the time of traveling to other countries they want to get there on the fly. A bygone era. In December 7th 1941 right before the attack the Lurlines radioman picked up messages from the Northwest of honolulu the japanese fleet was sending messages on the Lurline there was no decodeing machines to transcribe the messages being sent. At the begining of the attack she had orders to stema back to San fransisco to be painted all gray and converted to a troupship. I certainly appreciate this Dear sir I am honered I thank you.
