I'm a fan of this method also. It is very forgiving!

I'm looking forward to seeing your method of skinning the sides of the hull. Bows always give me fits...it seems the paper needs to curve in 2 directions in the same area!

I shaped the former at the bow to a taper with sandpaper (as the kit instructions show) and skined the sides much the same way as below the waterline: glue the pieces together with joining strips, then, working from the bow, glue the sides to the deck and then to the waterline. The port and starboard bow pieces overlap about 1/32" but with all the camouflage, it's not noticeable. At the stern, the sides had a nearly 1/4" gap which I filled with a strip from the "extra" colored panel that the kit provides. It's not perfect but you need a close look and an attitude to find it.

I'll post a photo or two ASAP.

Thanks for the lesson! I think it's one of those things that takes lots o' practice...so I guess I need to get busy and build more ships!

Rats!!

I got Answer's Akitsushima seaplane tender about 3/4 done several years ago and then set aside--I don't remember why.

I pulled it off the shelf to finish it and I find that have put the rest of the kit in a very, very safe place. Until it turns up, the Akitsushima goes back on the "Work in (Not Much) Progress" shelf.

Did you ever stare at a shelf full of unbuilt kits and not have the foggiest idea what to build next?
