Absolutely exquisite! Tilting the base to represent a sloped shore while exhibiting the kayak at an angle is pure genius. Congratulations!
I eagerly look forward to your next projects. Small working boats are a fascinating, but often overlooked subject. David T. Okamura |

Not only an exceptional diorama/vignette, but one that shows both an exquisite naturalness, and, in a curious sense, the intimate bond with nature such a scene suggests.
It takes true skills of superb levels to achieve such a thing, in such a fine balance. Kind and Respectful Regards Tappi, Uyraell.

Thank you The Orange and other fellow modelers for your interest in this diorama! Much appreciated.
@ David: I first had a base that was flat and it immediately looked uninteresting and dull. Slope is much better. Small boats are a rare subject choise but we do have here some individuals who do those too - see Silveoxide's thread of small boats. And there are many interesting threads of workboats in general. @ spaceagent-9: You should do that. I once saw a documentary on shark fishing (which by the way should be banned) and on that there was a sequence about traditional fishing Hawaian style. Fellow paddeled his board out in the open and using a bait near his board lassooed the fish - pretty amazing stuff. Some nerves he got. @ Uyraell: You made me blush. Thank you, it feels nice. Best Regards, Tappi |

Very nice Tappi! The diarama setting is really very cool. Whalebone and walrus skin..

Thanks Glen. I have couple of regular fishbones salmon perhaps and at this scale they would have worked fine but I resisted the temptation and decided to keep this build paper and cardboard only.

Thanks David! One more photo addition. I tried to take a pic of the kayak with 'greenlandish' backround and turned it to black and white like the photo that inspired me in the first place. Hope you enjoy it too. ;-)
And now on with other builds, I have the 'cute little rowboat' to finish first. Tappi |

If I didn't know about the model, I would have sworn this was the real thing. Great shot!!!

Thanks Peter! I heading now for the Model Expo. I registered the model to shipmodel category but now I'm thinking would scratch-built models or diorama categories be more suitable. If I want to change the category I need to negotiate with the local IPMS reps to allow paper and cardboard among plastic. You all know the drill. Let's see what happens.
Tappi (I have now idea how the pic relates to this topic or post but I just recieved my own copy of the famous poster and wanted to share it) |

I took the model to show and it's on display now. I talked to the IPMS reps and turned out that they had no restrictions on material used wich was very nice to notice so the model is in diorama category. Funny thing happened though - one of the reps pointed out tha the blue nylon cable was sticking out from the driftwood in an unnatural manner and of course he was right pointing it out. When building I got the idea that these kind of thick ropes are kinda stiff and left it like it was. Sometimes you just fall too much in love with your own excuses. LOL Well I'm there not so much to compete but to show and share so that's that.
