1/20 Greenland inuit kayak
This is my latest scratchbuilt paper and cardboard creation. Plans I got from a book presenting the details of an Greenland kayak and methods and materials building one. In that same book I found a nice picture showing how the kayaks were stowed on a shoreline and the idea for a small diorama was ready.
Everythig in the model is paper, cardboard and various kinds of glue plus of course paints. I used one 'photorealistic' element in the build and that is the pebblestone shorebase. The original build thread can be found here. Hope you enjoy this one, I enjoyd doing it very much. I'm going to take the model to a local Hobby event The Model Expo 2012 and more of that endeavour and the details of it later. Best Regards, Tappi |

Thanks Peter and Chris for the kind comments. I don't know about the museum display compliment but it pleases me in a certain way very much - I tried to do the diorama as ethnolocically accurate as I could (with a twist of few fresh cultural sidenotes). I had in my mind lot of other stuff to add but eventually decided not to pack the display too full.

Exquisite vignette of true north life.
It is like you have taken a photo and replicated a three dimensional facsimile. I enjoy such work. Thank you. |

I agree with Peter and Chris - museum quality.
Fascinating and very unusual subjet, too!

Hello Tappi,
Beautiful rendition. It is a very simple subject, yet it shows artistry and craftsmanship . . . . . . much like an oil on canvas painting. Well done! |

Hi fellows and thanks for the compliments. These simple everyman's utility boats are culturally a very interesting subject. You can find them in every parts of the world and the design of them varies a lot. There is the coracle from Wales, taraibune tub boat from Japan, all the different papyrus floats in Africa, the indian canoe etc. This might grow into a small series someday who knows. But first I have to finish the Finnish rowboat. More of that in the other thread soon.

awsome. i remember when people built real sized boats and stuff in their backyards or garages, this is great, the same thing but on a more convenient scale.
great job! i have got to do a mini old 1950's redwood surf board this way! complete with saw horses and varinish! [mop and glow] thanks again for the inspiration. great job too, it looks very real and fun to do. |
