Uboat type 1a, 1/350 scale
Hi. I'm making the U-25, an ubat type 1a.
It was in the Spanish civil war and was a clear precursor of the Type VII class. The original paper model (OPM) that I used like a guide was painted red under the waterline and a deck of wood. Researching, I found that the german subs, even the prewar ones, were painted dark gray, and the wooden deck was embeded with an asfaltic compost that gave it a wooden-blackist color. So, after resizing the model to a 1/350 scale, I assembled the hull and the conning tower and started the paint. Right now the sub is assembled by a 80% percent. more or less. It remains to place the gun, the railing, the anti-net cables, the anchor and the flag mast on the rear part of the deck. You can see that the deck was cut and perforated with a knife and a pin, and the water exaust holes at the sides of the deck are in relief too.

Nice job so far. Nice bit of research too!

Almost finished. Just remains the conning tower rails, the rear deck railposts, and both rear net-protection cables.
Compared with the USS Archerfish, you can see the smaller propellers of the U-25. Both ships are at the same scale. The same with the modern Los Angeles class submarine.

And... finished!
I liked the metod to use electrical wire for the posts and sewing thread for the handrail. Right now I feel confident with the relief of the decks and water holes. In fact, my CV-6 Enterprise is going to include it. I feel confident with the sewing wire at 1/350 scale. I don't like the hull's joins, they are too visible at this small scale (20.68 cm lenght) I don't like the acetate handrails too. It works fine at 1/700 scale but not at 1/350. This submarine was easy, and relaxing. Next sub will be a type VII, to compare. I was surprised that the type VII is shorter than the type 1a, but... they were coastal ships, not oceanic ones. At the end, I like this one.
